Transnational Aspects of Finnish Literature

The course will address the issue on transnational, transcultural, multilingual and transborder aspects of Finnish literature through various case studies, analyzing the category of the “national“ and its place in the history of Finnish literature.
The objective of the course is to make students acquainted with various aspects of Finland’s literature and culture in past and present, as well as to develop, in this particular context, a deeper analytical and methodological understanding of the category of “national“ literature and its role in the processes of formation of the discipline of literary history.
3 ECTS: study diary ca. 1/4 page per session (be it lecture or seminar) and active participation

Danish Manuscripts from the Middle Ages

Reading and Working with Manuscripts: A basic module, focusing on palaeography, codicology, manuscript description and transcription.
Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will have learned about the history of the book in Denmark and will become familiar with Danish-language manuscripts and text genres from the period 1250-1500. Students will develop skills in paleography and language in order to read Danish texts directly from manuscripts (via photographs) as well as skills in codicology in order to conduct independent analyses of manuscripts.
Format
The course combines independent online learning, asynchronous group discussion and weekly instruction via Zoom. Students will be expected to prepare for the seminars by watching instructional videos, reading relevant assigned literature and participating in a group forum discussion. Two independent research assignments will furthermore be given in the first and second weeks to be delivered by the following session.
4 LP for participation and final presentation
6 LP if they want to hand in or do something in addition to this (this is then discussed individually).

HS Populärkultur in Skandinavien: Theorie, Historiographie, kulturwissenschaftliche Analyse

Skandinavische Populärkultur ist nicht nur international erfolgreich, sondern es gibt auch Indizien dafür, dass sich der Diskurs über Populär-kultur in Skandinavien wesentlich z.B. vom deutschen unterscheidet.
In dem Seminar sollen zum ersten die kuranten und nicht ganz so kuranten kultur-wissenschaftlichen Forschungspositionen zur ‘Massenkultur’, ‚Kultur-industrie', ‘Populärkultur’ etc. diskutiert werden; zum zweiten soll die geschicht-liche Entwicklung der Populärkultur in Skandi-navien, ihre wichtigsten Formen und der Diskurs über diese verfolgt werden; zum dritten sollen populärkulturelle Phänomene kulturwissen-schaftlich analysiert werden.
Gute Lesekenntnisse in den skandinavischen Sprachen sind Voraussetzung für die Teilnahme.
Leistungspunkte:
6 LP bei Impulsreferat & Hausarbeit von 15-20 Seiten oder Äquivalent,
